Our Story
As colleagues at a Tier 1 consultancy, four skilled engineers forged a bond through a shared commitment to delivering exceptional work alongside great people. Bourn Engineers was created from their collective desire to provide high quality, hands-on engineering services to their clients and projects, ensuring personalised advice and expertise.
With the capability to service both urban development and infrastructure projects, Bourn Engineers provides direct access to decades of civil engineering experience across the public and private sectors.

Aaron Gilboy
DIRECTOR
+ Read BioAaron is a Principal Civil Engineer who has extensive experience in the development of master-planned developments and major infrastructure works. He has held national technical leadership roles and has been responsible for the delivery of some of South East Queensland’s most significant and successful developments.
Aaron has a proven track history of delivering outstanding projects, overseeing industry-leading urban development projects from feasibility through to construction completion. His achievements include being recognised with the UDIA award for Consultants Excellence on four occasions – a testament to his dedication and expertise.
As a technical leader, Aaron is known for embracing innovation and new ideas throughout the project lifecycle, always finding ways for engineering design to align with and support the project vision. He is passionate about mentoring engineering staff and upholding quality standards across teams.
Aaron has been responsible for delivering numerous signature projects, including the master planning and infrastructure within the Greater Springfield region, Aura Development and Ripley Valley projects. He also has significant experience in navigating all facets of development works within both local and state government approval frameworks. Beyond urban developments, Aaron has also led the delivery of award-winning sporting facilities such as the Brisbane Lions Training and Administration Facility, the Springfield Central Sporting Complex and Samford Sporting Precinct amongst others.
A hands-on leader, Aaron enhances engineering teams with his technical expertise and ability to develop practical, innovative design solutions. As a Chartered Professional Engineer, he brings deep knowledge in civil engineering design, construction and project leadership.
Outside of work, Aaron enjoys, spending time with his wife and two children. He’s a keen basketball and mixed netball player, and he’s the company’s resident photographer and videographer.
Chris Mantell
DIRECTOR
+ Read BioChris is an experienced Project Manager and Principal Civil Engineer with over 17 years’ experience delivering civil infrastructure projects. The majority of his career has been dedicated to managing projects for Transport and Main Roads (TMR) and Local Councils, giving him extensive experience across all phases of project delivery – from concept and development through to implementation and finalisation.
Having started his career at TMR and Ipswich City Council, Chris has a unique client-focused perspective to his work. This insight allows him to provide tailored solutions that are fit for purpose and meet the expectations of the community they serve. This commitment to community-driven outcomes was recognised in 2022 when he received the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA), Professional of the Year award for going above and beyond in project delivery.
Chris’s approach is hands-on and he has a proven track record of delivering significant infrastructure projects including the $219M Beams Rd Rail Level Crossing Upgrade and the $399M Boundary Road Rail Level Crossing Upgrade, alongside many smaller, local projects. Regardless of the project size, Chris is dedicated to delivering the highest possible standard whilst ensuring value for money for the community. He takes pride in solving complex problems within the budget and scope of the project.
As a Project Manager, Chris thrives on building and leading high-performing teams. He prides himself on always being able to get the best out of the individuals and attributes this to his background in professional sport, both as a player and coach. He strongly believes in the saying “A champion team will defeat a team of champions.” And applies this mindset when engaging his team to work collaboratively towards a common goal.
Outside of work, sport continues to play a large part of Chris’s life, particularly hockey, golf and cricket. These days, he spends more time coaching than playing, sharing his love of sport and it’s life lessons to his four children alongside his wife Rachael.
Jacob Meecham
DIRECTOR
+ Read BioJacob is a Principal Civil Engineer with over 12 years’ experience in the planning, design and delivery of major civil infrastructure projects both in Queensland and the United Kingdom.
Jacob has a passion for solving problems using a pragmatic engineering approach, consistently delivering exceptional project outcomes. His background in consulting engineering and civil contracting has provided a strong technical foundation which he now applies to leading multi-disciplinary teams through all phases of project delivery.
The success of Jacob’s projects stems from his keen attention to detail in design and project documentation, combined with a practical understanding of timelines and constraints. His ability to collaborate with clients, design teams and stakeholders ensures he achieves best for project results across every stage of delivery from concept to completion.
Jacob has been privileged to work on a range of significant civil infrastructure projects including the Boundary Road Rail Level Crossing, Beams Road Rail Level Crossing, and the Bicentennial Bikeway Upgrade. He takes great pride in seeing his team’s efforts transformed into tangible assets for the community. This sense of accomplishment continues to drive his passion for delivering exceptional projects and outcomes for his clients.
When not working, Jacob enjoys spending time at the coast with his friends and family. He is an avid golfer and sports enthusiast, as a lifelong Broncos supporter he is eagerly awaiting the day his team secures their long-awaited premiership.
Warren Steiner
DIRECTOR
+ Read BioWarren is a seasoned Business Leader, Chartered Civil Engineer and Project Director. He has extensive expertise in planning, design, and delivering complex infrastructure and land development projects across Australia and the UK.
With a diverse professional background encompassing development management, consulting, and civil contracting, Warren brings a wealth of experience and a distinctive, practical approach to project design and delivery. Driven by a strong focus on achieving exceptional outcomes, Warren excels in leading and orchestrating multi-disciplinary teams to deliver results.
Before Bourn Engineers, Warren was a senior leader in the Australian division of global consulting firm Stantec (previously Cardno). As Queensland’s Regional Manager of the Transport and Community Development teams, he oversaw operations for more than 150 project management and technical professionals. In 2021, he was one of twelve senior leaders worldwide selected by the Executive team to participate in the Global High Potential Program.
Warren has played a key role in delivering city shaping projects, most notably Queensland’s largest waterfront urban renewal project, Northshore Hamilton – the future home of the Brisbane 2032 Athletes Village. He has also contributed to award-winning projects across South-East Queensland including, Aura, Brookwater, Shoreline and the Springfield Central Sporting Complex.
Outside of work, Warren enjoys a busy and active lifestyle with his wife and their three kids. Weekends often find him cheering on his children at sports fields or enjoying family camping trips across South-East Queensland.
Warren is an active member of peak industry organisations including Engineers Australia (EA), the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia Queensland (IPWEAQ), the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) and the Property Council of Australia (PCA).
Brett Ferguson
DESIGN MANAGER
+ Read BioBrett is a Principal Civil Designer and Design Manager with over 25 years of experience in engineering design. Brett has a diverse project history, ranging from designing roadwork upgrades, landslip remediations, floodways and culvert upgrades for local councils in Queensland and delivering designs for award winning masterplanned communities.
Brett’s expertise covers both urban development and transport infrastructure projects, equipping him with a versatile skill set and a deep understanding of design principles. He prides himself on delivering high quality engineering designs which reflect his comprehensive knowledge of design codes, whilst remaining cost-effective, and practical to construct. He is an experienced team leader as well as a hands-on designer. Brett’s commitment to staying current with industry standards and technologies ensure his designs are innovative, sustainable and aligned with his client’s goals.
Brett pairs his technical expertise with strong communication skills and the ability to convey complex design concepts to a variety of stakeholders. He collaborates effectively, ensuring his projects are delivered to a high standard, meeting client expectations and statutory requirements. As a senior design manager he has overseen multi-disciplinary teams to develop designs for major masterplans and infrastructure delivery programs.
Brett is a renowned team leader, known for forming a strong rapport with clients, staff and subconsultants. As a senior mentor, he fosters the development of design and drafting team members and passes on best practice design techniques and his practical approach to problem solving.
When not working, Brett s active by running around with his 3 kids alongside his wife. When he’s not involved in all things soccer, you’ll find him trying to improve his handicap on the golf course.
